Application for Marriage Registration under Special Marriage Act, 1954
(As per the Special Marriage Act, 1954 and Tripura Special Marriage Rules)
Citizens who wish to solemnize or register their marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 — which allows inter-caste, inter-religious, and civil marriages — may apply at the office of the Marriage Officer of their respective jurisdiction.
Eligibility Criteria
- Either party must be a citizen of India
- Either one of the parties must be a permanent resident of North Tripura District
- Minimum Age: 18 years and above
- Both parties must give free consent and not be in a prohibited degree of relationship
- Neither party should have a living spouse at the time of marriage
Required Documents
From Both Parties:
- Proof of Age (Birth Certificate / Madhyamik Admit / PAN Card / Passport)
- Address Proof (Aadhaar Card / Voter ID / Passport)
- Photographs- Two recent passport-size photos of each party
- Affidavit by both parties stating:
- Date of Birth
- Marital Status (unmarried/divorcee/widow)
- Nationality/PRTC
- Consent for marriage
From Witnesses (3 persons):
- Identity Proof (Aadhaar / Voter ID / Passport)
- Address Proof
Procedure
- Submit a written notice in Form I to the Marriage Officer of the district where at least one party has resided for not less than 30 days
- Observe a mandatory 30-day public notice period
- If no objection is raised, the marriage will be solemnized and registered in the presence of 3 witnesses
- A Marriage Certificate will be issued after registration
